Madness, Darkness and Carved Lies

The cruellest month is nearing its end… only a couple of bites left. I’ve been having all sorts of fun poetizing our April dearest. Have you been delighting in poetry? I hope so, for having fun with words is pure yum for the soul. Below are 5 of the 28 Dark Poem Bits I have shared on Instagram and Facebook in April. I am adding this post to Open Link Night at dVerse. Go ahead, my Wicked Luvs, pick a favorite… tell me what you like about it… and I’ll expand the bit most liked in the weeks to come. Yes, April, you don’t get all the yum. May must get some, too.

“Madness and Moonless Nights”
Madness and moonless nights are kissing
cousins. Yes, she has tasted them both…
but, in the dark, she can’t tell whose lips
are driving the mind out of her skull.
1. Madness and Moonless Nights
– inspired by a quote provided by Sanaa Rizvi. Go HERE to read the quote.

“Carved Lies”
Your kisses carved lies
all over my backbone.
I defleshed my spine,
rubbed it on dirt to forget.
But bones have strong memories,
and soil always remembers
the salt of tears and hurt.
2. Carved Lies
– inspired by an AlmaMia Cienfuegos quote provided by moi. Go HERE to read the quote.

“Remember”
Bite me, and I will
bite back. And remember,
betrayed teeth cut equally
through old friends
and new foes.
3. Bite Me
– inspired by a Jake Roberts quote provided by moi. Go HERE to read the quote.

“Darkness Builds”
Darkness builds her home
in wood, mortar and stone.
She digs her nails deeper
with the setting of the sun.
In the brightest human souls,
Darkness finds a catacomb.
4. Darkness Builds
– inspired by a Stephen King quote provided by Denise Scoville. Go HERE to read the quote.

“Squeal”
all muck dwellers squeal,
when the heavens weep hot oil
down storm drain cities
5. Squeal
– inspired by a quote provided by Debra, She Who Seeks. Go HERE to read the quote.

  1. These are all so good and your presentation is so artistic. If I have to choose one, it would be Carved Lies. I really like reading and writing dark poetry.

  2. “Carved Lies” is my favorite of these, perhaps because I despise lies. I like the way you’ve included the pictures of all of these poems handwritten. My handwriting is much too messy and my photography skills much too lacking to attempt such a thing, but you make it work superbly.

  3. Oh I really don’t want to pick a favorite – and I should have written to your prompts. After all, dark poetry is my comfort zone. But I think remember is my favorite…

  4. Oh Magaly ❤❤ I adore this post 😀 love madness and moonless nights 😉 its sheer perfection and oh carved lies is most enticing to the senses. Sigh, its been so great participating in your Dark prompts..❤❤

    Lots of love,
    Sanaa

  5. If I must pick a favourite, it would be “Darkness Builds” but I do love “Carved Lies”. I really like the intense darkness in all of them and the visual presentation is very refreshing.

  6. I liked them all, Magaly, but “Madness and Moonless Nights” really speaks to me because I can relate to the lonely depression that can accompany both. I love your unique presentation with each being written by hand…cool!

  7. I am very impressed with both the presentation and with your strong poetic words, Magaly! Kudos to you for writing poems each day of this month!!

  8. Love this one. It speaks to my soul and heart which are hidden away in darkness.

  9. I would have to choose “Madness and Moonless Nights”. I would love to see a deeper story into this poem, it has such a familiar tone. The moonless nights seem to indicate a hopeless total darkness while madness….the mind of course. It was by far my favorite, although, I love them all.

  10. Late to the reading here — busy day yesterday.
    “and soil always remembers
the salt of tears and hurt.”
LOVE these two lines. Yes, I definitely vote for Carved Lies — but so sad to winnow it down to one.
So glad you shared them all!

  11. I had no idea you were hosting prompts for April but it was such a busy month for us all. Next year then?

I think Carved Lies it my favorite but they’re all great. You are so talented!

I was looking at your books did you do the covers? Nice artwork there too.

    • I host some kind of writing event in April and October. It used to be only fiction, but last year I started giving poetry to the greedy April. Next year, it is then. 😉

My covers are the work of Michelle Kennedy (I wish I had that kind of talent!).

  12. These are all great. There is something… a tone, or accent maybe, laced with attitude that I real love. Well done! Then I saw your picture, and I could see it in your smile.
