At Sleepy Hollow with My Piano Man

Every year, my Piano Man and I celebrate the anniversary of our first date by recreating said first date. This year, our anniversary coincided with the day New York Comic Con tickets went on sale. Our anniversary is very important to us, but Comic Con is, well… freaking Comic Con! So we stayed home until we were able to get tickets, and then we headed to Sleepy Hollow for a pre-anniversary date celebration (we will go on the real ferry-riding deal in the fall).

It was early afternoon, when we got to Sleepy Hollow. The weather was appropriately creepy—lots of sun, with darkish clouds dancing in front of it. We park between Van Ripper…

…and Crane.

We walked through woods, where nature did her best to strangle herself…

…and crossed a creek, in order to visit the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

We found an enormous rock…

…that was actually a coffin.

We ran into a tomb-swallowing tree…

…and, of course, a bird feeder in the middle of the graveyard—the dead like birdsong, too.

On our way out of the cemetery, we met a friend…

…then climbed some half-rotten steps that took us to a forking trail.

We chose the Witch’s Spring Trail, but found no evidence of other witches…

…not until we were driving away from Sleepy Hollow. I know what you are thinking—New Yorkers, who insist this is just a structure no longer used by the local aqueduct—but I don’t care what you say. I know a witch lives in there. If not… then I’m totally moving in! 😀

  1. Absolutely beautiful and romantic – the post and the couple. 🙂 Sleepy Hollow sounds like a charming cozy gem, but what I enjoyed most is the post on ‘said first date’. Love is beautiful, and thank you for sharing. Happy Anniversary…♥♥♥

    • While we drove, I saw this huge fire truck, someone had stuck a sticker that said, “Got Gothic?” on it. I was too slow to photograph it, but I told my Piano Man, “Emma would probably love this.” 😀

    • Kidding? Oh, I thought you were able to see one of the souls we invited for a stroll. Thank goodness you didn’t really any of them. They would be rather crossed if they thought their faces could be capture by iPhones.

  2. I really enjoyed tagging along on your date, thank you for having me, spotting the squirrel, tomb eating tree, and you and PM’s bright smiles were highlights of time well spent with the dymanic duo on their anniversary… And you snagged tickets to your fav event, perfect!!!
